Interview: Ro Danishei

BePop is pleased to introduce a new and talented artist, previously we make a review of her album and this week we have the opportunity that she speaks a little of her music, her career and the album End of the Rainbow. She is Ro Danishei.

To begin, who is Ro Danishei?
I'm turning 20 on June 5th...I come from a tight nit Russian family on the east coast. I'm New York City raised, and living in LA for a little over a year now. I've been singing and writing songs since I was 8, and doing it professionally since I was 12. I was in a girl group called Candy Coated Chaos for 6 years before going solo. I'm inspired by everything from Ace of Bass and ABBA to Nirvana and Hole to the vocal genius of Whitney and Celine, to Madonna, Prince, and the rest of the pop Gods. I started writing because of Denniz Pop and Max Martin. Cheiron changed my life!

What are the advantages of being an independent artist?
It's great because I have creative freedom. I control my business and who's a part of it, and really get to stay true to myself and my fans.

What elements inspire you when you’re writing and producing a new song?
Lots of stuff. I draw from personal experience. Making music is instinct to me. I've always known I was born to do it, and I can't really force inspiration. It comes to me in bursts when I least expect it from a power much bigger than me. When my muses are angry with me I can't write, so I try to be a good person as much as possible.

Can you say your music and lyrics reflect what you are living in this moment?
Definitely. When I finish an album, looking back on it and listening to all of the songs, it's almost like an audio diary of that time period of my life. It's always the best way to put feelings into words. If I'm in love or in hate, it's in my music.

Tell us about your album End of the Rainbow.
End of the Rainbow was my first solo release on New Year's Day 2011. It's available for free download on my website www.rodanishei.com- it's 11 tracks and I hope you all love it!

What is the most special song for you on this album?
Hmm...they are all special to me in a way. My favorite is "Blackout" just because it comes from a dark and crazy place. It's my favorite song for sure.

Have you listened to some Latin American artists or songs?
I love JLo and Marc Anthony. I was also the biggest fan of Ricky Martin and Shakira when I was younger. I don't think I've listened to any artists that are exclusive to Latin America.

What is the song that you can’t stop listening right now.
There are a few. I love Robyn's Body Talk trilogy. I'm also a big Yelle fan...Safari Disco Club is brilliant. I'm also obsessed with Sky Ferreira's "Traces" written by Neon Hitch. Colette Carr's "(We Do It) Primo" is fantastic as well as well as Frankmusik's "AM"...so yeah, definitely can't choose just one!! Haha.

How is the perfect party for Ro Danishei?
The perfect party for me has all of my closest friends and family in my future badass LA home barbecuing and drinking beers by the pool while listening to jams...and there will be a disco ball in there somewhere...and a dance floor...

What's next for Ro Danishei.
I just got back from performing in London and now I'm in New York visiting my family...I'm back in LA next week and will be writing for my next album which I'm recording at the beginning of July. I am soo excited for it and am working with some awesome folks so I can't wait to share more about with you soon! So follow me on twitter! www.twitter.com/rodanishei

Thanks a lot to Ro Danishei to take time to answer this questions, and remember you can download her album End of the Rainbow for free on her website www.rodanishei.com
